oscekosovo 📰 Behind every story are journalists navigating deadlines, pressure and difficult realities. Their well-being matters. The OSCE Mission in Kosovo, together with the Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK), organized the International Conference on Media Workers and Mental Health, featuring the launch of the Guidelines on Journalists’ Mental Health and Well-being in the Newsroom, creating space for an important conversation on occupational stress, resilience and psychosocial support in journalism. 💬 “The Guidelines encourage journalists, editors and media organizations to treat mental health as part of a healthy newsroom culture, where colleagues support one another and asking for help carries no stigma,” said Pascale Roussy, Director of the Democratization Department. 💬 In a video message to participants, Jan Braathu, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, emphasized that protecting journalists’ mental health and well-being is not only important in its own right, but also integral to journalists’ safety and media freedom. An interactive afternoon session led by Simon Schellevis, founder of EMBODYMIND and creator of the Inward Method, introduced practical techniques for stress recognition, grounding and self-regulation. The conference highlighted that journalists’ mental health is an integral part of their safety and media freedom. It emphasized shared responsibility for supportive newsroom environments, access to professional and peer support, targeted assistance for journalists facing heightened risks, and the need to address threats and harmful working conditions alongside psychological support. 🤝 Continued co-operation among the OSCEKosovo, AJK and other stakeholders remains important to translate these commitments into practice and strengthen journalists’ well-being in Kosovo. 📸 OSCE/Leurina Mehmeti
